Catch of the Day.

by Isabel

Ladies, line up. This one is a charmer!

“Rape is simply sex (I am talking about ‘husband-rape’ here)… Women enjoy sex, so rape cannot be such a terrible physical ordeal…To suggest that rape, when conducted without violence, is a serious crime is like suggesting force-feeding a woman chocolate cake is a heinous offence.”

A lovely quote from the now-former British National Party’s London Assembly candidate Nick Eriksen. If that doesn’t get your heart a-fluttering, I don’t know what will!

  1. I had a rather…conservative friend pull this logic out of his hat one day in regards to gay men. He said a gay man couldn’t be raped in prison because they enjo… and then he saw the look on my face. He sputtered it was a joke and ran for it. He didn’t get far. We had a discussion about teh funny, where I pointed out that the same argument was by default applicable to het women and did he believe they couldn’t be raped? Unlike the person in your post here, he said no, but it’s not surprising to see the attitude of yes is still rampant.

  2. it’s kind of like saying politicians enjoy being assassinated because…uh because…well, they like being in the public eye, and garnering sympathy any way they can…yeah, a pretty fucking painful stretching exercise.

Yup–hence my surprise that the BNP dropped this charming candidate.

I still think the chocolate was what put his comments beyond the pale (ahem.)
