I also don’t believe that all partners are going to be reacting in stereotypical ways to the news that the other partner got swept away. That’s between the partners in the partnership, and it’s nobody else’s business how they think of all that. I think it’s important that we don’t project sentimentalities on to other perfectly capable adults who may not share them.

At the same time, I put a very high value on trust and honesty in partnerships, not to mention public life, so if someone has been living a lie, that is a serious problem to me.

Beyond that, jealousy is one of my major character flaws, so if I felt I had been betrayed by someone I loved because he had lied to me, I would be out of my mind, clawing off my skin, and in need of the help of friends.

But how teh hell can we know whether any of these things is true in this situation? I think that Larry Craig’s case is much more clear: he has been and remains a political campaigner for oppressive “values” that he seems to disregard in his own life. I don’t see anything like that in what we know of Edwards, but who knows, and do we have the right?

One thing I know for sure: I would NEVER condescend to Elizabeth Edwards by feeling sorry for her. She is definitely not a pitiable person.

I ain’t touching that one with a 10,000-and-a-half foot pole, m’dear.

I am also currently fascinated by reality TV about military families like Army Wives, however it is in no way good or great, just there.

I was a fan of 24 early on, this because it seemed to propose a curious notion of torture where Jack Bauer’s right/fitness to torture was secured by his own physical mortification, murder of his family, etc. (Also they had a black prezident.) But now it just sucks.

Curiously, the 24’s black president is now a soldier on the lame special forces/black ops show The Unit, which isn’t good enough to be pernicious the way 24 was at first.

There are also some good comic books. I love that Rushdie cat and all, but it’s hard for me to take this kind of critique seriously from a guy who married a beauty queen half his age.

In my view, nobody should be allowed to walk the streets with a mask over their face, unless for health reasons. Apart from the misogyny, the burkha is downright creepy and can be used as a coverup for those committing crimes. Just ask the British.

Religion is just too ridiculous an excuse for all sorts of noxious divisions in society and I see no reason for any nation not to be able to protect itself from problems caused by fanatics.

What should we make of chocolate and coffee commercials that emphasizes their deep, rich color?

It must be easy writing about racism these days. All you have to do is take the color of common everyday items and relate that to racism. Recently someone complained about the term “black hole”.

I presume this blogger is a university professor. It’s no wonder that humanities departments are held in such contempt these days. They’ve worked at it so hard.
